Foreword

The Assembly 1967

The following pages have been compiled to celebrate a significant event - a Century and a half of Worship and Witness. We would like to thank all those who have given an account of their experiences of the assembly in their earlier years, and to those who have provided old photographs, and contributed in any way to this brief account. This could have been a far more comprehensive publication if more information had been committed to paper in those early years of the assembly. It is of course possible that some material was lost in the war years. It is possible that some names that should have been included have been omitted, and if this has happened it is inadvertent and apologies are extended to those who might have been offended.

We remember with gratitude the early Christians who first met together in the Adamsdown district of Cardiff. We give thanks to our heavenly Father for His goodness and preservation down through the years, and for the faithful succession of believers who have enabled the services of Worship and Gospel Witness to continue for one hundred and fifty years.

We pray that the assembly will continue, God willing 'Till He Come...' and will endeavour to be a blessing to the folk in the area through the preaching of the Gospel.

Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose branches run over the wall: (Genesis 49:22.)

We are always glad to hear from believers who had parents or grandparents associated with the fellowship at Adamsdown Gospel Hall. In 2000 we received an email from a sister in Canada whose grandparents were saved, baptised and received into the fellowship at Adamsdown before they moved to Canada. She and her husband, their six children and their spouses are all saved and in assembly fellowship, and many of their twenty-three grandchildren are saved too.

Only the Lord knows how faithful brothers and sisters of the past will have stars in their crown because "they did what they could," and the Lord is "not unrighteous to forget their work and labour of love". [Heb. 6:10]

The following pages give a brief overview of those years, which we hope you will enjoy and find of interest.
