A very important, unsung work carried out behind the scenes has been the work of the church secretaries, and since the commencement of the work there have been many. Unfortunately we are unable to establish who the secretaries were in the very early years of the assembly, but we do know that Mr. Richard Mayberry held the position during the earlier part of the 20th century. When he was called home in 1948 Mr. Harold Thomas accepted the responsibility, and he needs to be singled out for his outstanding work, not just to the assembly at Adamsdown, but to the thousands of believers in Cardiff and district.

Assembly outing in 1935

Whilst he held the positions of secretary of the assembly and of the Sunday school at Adamsdown, he was also secretary of the Cardiff Christian Rallies, and of the three Cardiff Christian Conferences. Records show that Adamsdown benefited greatly from this as the assembly frequently had weekend visits from missionaries and ministering brethren.

Harold Thomas had a tremendous capacity for work and as there were very few telephones in the homes in those days, he personally wrote hundreds of letters to all parts of the world. When he relinquished his position in 1959, Mr. Robert Coles, who had been saved in the Sunday school and had been in the assembly from a very young man, took over the responsibility. Ill health forced him to resign in 1982. The present secretary who has taken the assembly into its third century is Mr. Gerald Voisey.
