The Future
In Joshua chapter 1:5 we read that God gave Joshua this promise: "As
I was with Moses, so will I be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee".
Moses had been a great leader. He had led the children of Israel out of Egypt,
and they were on their way to the Promised Land, and when Moses died, God did
not forget His people. Joshua was to be the new leader, assuming the
responsibility of the march, and of the people of God. And He gave Joshua His
promise that His purpose for the children of Israel would be carried out, and
God guaranteed that His presence would go with Joshua.
Today as we look back over one hundred and fifty years at Adamsdown,
we see the evidence that God’s hand has been in the work, just as with
Joshua. He has not failed us or forsaken us. We thank God for those early
brethren who by faith established the work at Adamsdown, and for
those who have also maintained the work to the present day. Paul wrote
to Timothy, "And the things that thou hast heard of me among many
witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to
teach others also" [2 Tim. 2:2].
But we are to move forward with the Gospel, like Joshua of old,
claiming that same promise by faith, for the Lord has promised that
He will go with us, never failing us, never forsaking us.
Though fewer in number the work of evangelism in the area continues
- with Children's work, Ladies' meetings, Literature distribution
and regular Sunday visits to an Old Peoples Home etc. We can repeat
the words of Paul - "God is faithful, by whom you were called unto
the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord." - 1Cor. 1:9.
