The work grew into the valleys

In the early days a valuable work was done in the South Wales valleys by "tract bands" from Adamsdown and other city assemblies. Meeting on Saturdays, they went on their cycles to isolated parts of the valleys holding open-air meetings and distributing tracts, often not returning home until after midnight. Some assemblies were commenced as a result of this work. Mr. Charles Jones recalled,

"On one occasion when the tract band was out in a remote part of the country, one of the cycles suffered a severe puncture. Completely cutting the inner tube was the only possible repair. This was achieved with much celebration, only to be short lived when they discovered that the tube had been joined around the crossbar of the cycle." Mr Walter Norris was commended by the assembly to full time service on the 15th July 1919. His ministry was appreciated, not just in the South Wales valleys where he spent most of his time, but in many parts of the British Isles. During the summer months he teamed up with Mr. William Trew from the Mackintosh Gospel Hall, and they held gospel tent campaigns in the valleys resulting in new assemblies being established and others being encouraged.

Reading the report sections in old copies of the "Precious Seed" magazine, it is interesting to see how the Lord mightily used our brother Walter Norris in the salvation of souls and in the building up of assemblies in South Wales. Two years ago we heard from a sister of eighty-seven years of age now living in Bournemouth. Evelyn Dalziel as a young girl was brought up in Fforestfach, Swansea, and at the age of seven was encouraged by a neighbour to go to the Sunday school at the Gospel Hall. She very soon was able to persuade her brother and sister to join her.

A few years later in 1921, Mr Norris held a gospel campaign at the same hall, and as a result of much pestering her parents agreed to attend. They went every night to the meetings, and because of their keen interest, it was decided to continue the campaign for another week when in the goodness of God both parents were saved.

The family moved to Gorseinon and in the summer of 1931 Walter Norris and Willie Trew were invited to conduct tent meetings there. As a result, all three children were saved, and baptised, and received into the fellowship. Evelyn married a believer and became Mrs Hirons. She has two daughters and their spouses and three granddaughters, who are all saved by the grace of God. Walter could never have imagined the fruitful harvest to the glory of God as a result of those meetings, and of course, the Sunday school work that started it.
